1 Words shape your mind
Words are used by humans to think and articulate their thoughts.
This is why, usually, if powerful people wish to control others, they impact the education system: the fewer words you know, the worse you can understand reality, and the easier you become to manipulate.
Not only that, the wider your vocabulary, the more you understand what happens within you: how can you decipher what you feel if you don't know it exists?
This is what Tony Robbins shared on the topic:
The word you attach to your experience becomes experience itself because it shapes your belief systems regarding yourself, others, and events.
The right dose of pain pushes you to grow, develop, and enjoy your life. It’s not a “no pain no gain” concept, but more “little pain, biggest gain”, where pain corresponds to challenges to overcome.
There are certain emotions you go back to, the so-called “emotional home”. They are triggered every time you use the words you associated them with.
At its core, a word is the tool we have to describe what we feel and experience.
If you want to change what you are going through, doing something as easy as avoiding certain phrases has a great impact on you.
The reason is the Emotional-home: a mental state we go back to every time we use the same words to describe how we feel or what's happening.
We are all "personas"
We all have different sides to us, masks that we put on.
These masks, or "personas", are sets of emotions, thoughts, and feelings that we access on different occasions. They depend on the social context we are in, our responsibilities, our roles, and the people we have around us at a certain moment.
If you want to have success in business, you should select the right persona in each step of the business-making and managing process; otherwise, you will fail:
Being too empathetic if you must fire someone won't help either you or them
A lack of professionalism during a meeting can ruin your image
Business is about Passion
The most successful entrepreneurs are the ones who can "play the game" for longer and more frequently.
If business is seen as "duty", it won't be fulfilling in the long run, hence it will fail or will become a burden, something the owner "has to do", instead of "wants to do".
Apart from rephrasing your business, for example, by calling it "my remunerative hobby", or "my pleasure",
You can find passion in business, and not just “duty”, by asking yourself: ”Would I do this project for free?”
Surround yourself with the right people to spend your time with. Ask yourself: “Do I enjoy spending time with this person? Are their skills adequate for what I am about to do?”
Learning by watching the "top players" in action
The two had a conversation that looked like a coaching session, where Alex shared his doubts and beliefs, and Tony helped him gain some clarity.
During that part of the video, I decided to pay attention not only to the informational content, which was tailored to a super successful entrepreneur whose problems were far from mine, but mostly to how they think and approach life and conversations.
What struck me the most were 2 key skills they have:
Alex has a forma mentis (mental schemes) that allows him to rapidly conceptualise what he thinks and structure them. He is quick to classify information, summarize it in his words, and extract value.
Tony is great at active listening. He is passionate about what he teaches and is quick to recognise behavioral patterns that can hinder his coachee’s results. His empathetic approach allows him to understand what he has in front of him and use the right words to communicate his message properly.
I believe learning from the most successful people in my field is one of the biggest blessings the Internet brought.
